Hello my name is Emma, I attended the YWLIAI camp in 2019 and fell in love with the problem solving and maths side of tech. As I enter my final year of high school, the all so daunting question of ‘what will I study next year’ looms even closer. I knew that I loved STEM from the get go but honestly never considered a career in technology… until I attended the camp! I was so inspired by the calibre of attendees at the camp, most of whom were much older than I, and how supportive they all were towards me. After attending a few lectures about the maths behind machine learning, I fell in love with this side of technology and knew this was definitely a career option.
Despite my lack of professional experience, this camp was so valuable in opening my eyes to the world after high school and giving me confidence in myself. I was grateful to be awarded the Deloitte scholarship which I hope to put towards promoting the maths aspect of machine learning to high school students.
I love studying STEM in high school and am passionate about gender equality. In the future, I hope to see more empowered women joining the technology field and watch as we solve many of this world’s biggest issues.
